The Senior Lending Officer Panel

Join us for a discussion with the senior lenders from three New England based banks. The panelists will share their experiences of lending in a rising rate environment, concerns with potential recession, and dealing with a significant period of inflation.  This panel will provide insights from many years of experience in their markets and beyond.  Participating in the panel are Greg Buscone, Executive Vice President, Sr. Commercial Banking Officer at Eastern Bank; Trevor Bloom, Chief Lending Officer at Lowell Five Bank; and Steve DiPrete, Chief Commercial Banking Officer at South Shore Bank. Katerina Papp, Sr. Credit Officer at Eastern Bank, will moderate the conversation. This will also be the chapter’s Annual Meeting, and RMA members will be invited to vote on the FY 2023 Slates of Officers and Directors, and to hear from the Treasurer regarding the Chapter’s financial condition.

About Our Panelists:

Gregory P. Buscone - EVP, Sr. Commercial Banking Officer, Eastern Bank

Greg is an experienced corporate banking leader, with more than 35 years of experience in the industry. Known for a strong commitment to building long-term client relationships, Greg’s finance and banking experience is expansive and includes expertise in financing strategies for corporate growth and succession planning for family-owned companies. In addition, Greg has deep experience in serving the needs of manufacturers, wholesalers, security alarm companies, and advising in such areas as working capital lines of credit, acquisition financing, owner-occupied real estate. During his career, Greg has held responsibilities in retail banking, small business lending, commercial real estate, middle market, asset based and specialized lending.

Greg currently serves as Executive Vice President - Senior Commercial Banking Officer for Eastern Bank, with $25 billion in assets and more than 115 locations serving communities in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. He is responsible for its $3 billion Commercial & Industrial lending portfolio.

Prior to Eastern, Greg spent 17 years at Citizens Bank, serving as a Senior Vice President and Market Manager for Massachusetts Middle Market and Specialized Lending. He began his commercial banking career in 1986 at Shawmut Bank, which later became Fleet Bank.

Active in the community, Greg serves on various business boards focused on improving the economic health of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He sits on the Board of Directors of Bay Cove Human Services (Treasurer,) MassEcon (former Vice Chair,) the Associated Industries of MA, where he Co-Chairs the Diversity & Inclusion Committee (and formerly chaired the Investment Committee) and BDC New England Board.

Greg earned his BA degree from the College of the Holy Cross and his MBA degree from Northeastern University. He resides in Medfield with his wife, Megan, and their six children.

Steve DiPrete, Chief Commercial Banking Officer, South Shore Bank

Stephen DiPrete joined South Shore Bank in 2020, as its Chief Commercial Banking Officer, and with twenty-eight years of banking experience , Stephen has an award-winning record of providing customized commercial lending and cash management solutions. In his role, Stephen oversees Business Development, Credit Quality, and ongoing Relationship Management for the Commercial and Small Business Banking teams. Stephen is a member of the Bank’s loan committee. Prior to joining South Shore Bank, Stephen spent sixteen years at Eastern Bank, most recently as a Senior Vice President with the Middle Market Lending team.

Stephen is active in the community, coaching youth basketball, serving as a Member of the Board of Governors at Foxboro Country Club, the Board of Directors South Shore Chamber of Commerce, and as a Member of the Corporate Advisory Council of Cradles to Crayons. He  is a passionate supporter of veterans’ organizations, including Mass Fallen Heroes and The New England Center and Home for Veterans, and he serves on the Annual Gala Committee of The Friendship Home in Norwell.   Stephen resides in Foxboro with his wife Deborah, three daughters Anna, Grace, Kate, and a spaniel named Maddie.

Trevor Bloom, Chief Lending Officer at Lowell Five Bank

Trevor is currently the Chief Lending Officer at The Lowell Five Cent Savings Bank. In his role he oversees all lending functions, including Commercial, Residential and Consumer Lending as well as Credit.

2022 marks Trevor’s 30th year in banking. He came to Lowell Five in February of 2021 after 15 years at TD Bank, where he held numerous positions in the Commercial bank. Most recently he was a Regional Vice President for TD Bank in the Eastern MA market, managing teams of Commercial and Small Business lenders. Prior to TD, Trevor was at Eastern Bank for 13 years, starting as a credit analyst and onto positions of increasing responsibility, from workout officer, to portfolio manager, junior lender and finally Relationship Manager.

Our Moderator:

Katerina Papp, Sr. Credit Officer, Eastern Bank

Katerina is a Senior Credit Officer of Eastern Bank. In this role she supervises Commercial Underwriting Department, Credit Training Program and Risk Analytics Group. She is responsible for Commercial and Retail portfolio credit risk monitoring, credit policies, commercial underwriting guidelines, CECL methodologies and public loan portfolio disclosures. Katerina is a voting member of Credit, Asset Quality and CECL Committees. She also is a board member of the RMA New England Chapter and a 40 under 40 award winner from Boston Business Journal. Katerina holds an MBA degree from Suffolk University, a BS degree in Economics from Vilnius University (Lithuania) and Graduate certificate in Executive Bank Management from Consumer Bankers Association.
