Panelists:

Margie Kaufman - Partner, PKF Clear Thinking

Marjorie (Margie) Kaufman has provided turnaround and interim management expertise to companies around the country for over 30 years. Her experience in developing and implementing strategic and financial plans has successfully driven business success and controlled costs for her clients.Prior to joining PKF Clear Thinking, Margie served as Chief Financial Officer at Christmas Tree Shops, LLC. Before her role at Christmas Tree Shops, Margie spent over 30 years at several middle market turnaround and restructuring firms, frequently serving as interim Chief Restructuring Officer and Chief Financial Officer for companies experiencing financial difficulties. As part of those engagements, she provided cash flow management services, conducted business plan viability analyses, designed and steered turnaround action plans, managed debt and equity placement, sourced refinancing, and leveraged her deep expertise in forensic accounting. Margie’s work has spanned many industries, including retail, car rental and sales, distribution, health care, education, manufacturing, food and beverage and professional services.

Kerry Rubin - Attorney, McCue, Lee & Greene, LLP

Kerry Rubin is an attorney at McCue, Lee & Greene, LLP (MLG), and has been in practice for over 27 years. For the past 11 years, she has concentrated her practice on commercial lending and the representation of banks, private lenders and other lending institutions in their ongoing relationships with commercial borrowers. In this context, she focuses on the enforcement of commercial paper workouts, loan modifications, foreclosures, commercial real estate matters and civil litigation. She is admitted to practice in Massachusetts State and Federal Courts, and the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Massachusetts. Prior to working at MLG, she worked as a commercial litigator in the Washington D.C. office of WilmerHale, formerly Hale and Dorr LLP. Ms. Rubin received a J.D. magna cum laude, from Boston University School of Law, where she was an editor and a published author for the BU Law Review. She has a Masters degree in Economics from Northwestern University and a Bachelors of Arts in Math and Economics from Bucknell University. She has served on the boards of several local community organizations, including the Duxbury Education Foundation.

Linda Sternfelt - SVP, Chief Credit Officer, Bristol County Savings Bank

Linda Sternfelt has been a career banker for over 40 years.  She currently serves as the Chief Credit Officer of Bristol County Savings Bank.  In that capacity, she oversees the Commercial and Small Business Underwriting, Loan Review and Loan Collections Departments.  Prior to serving as the Chief Credit Officer of the Bank, she was VP of Loan Collections, VP Commercial Lender and the Commercial Credit Manager.  Her banking career includes experience in commercial lending, loan purchases, loan sales, loan securitization, loan workout and commercial construction lending.  She earned her bachelor’s degree in Economics/Government from Wheaton College in Norton, MA and her Master of Business Administration degree from Babson College in Wellesley, MA.  She is Vice Chairman of her town’s Finance Committee and Secretary of its Capital Planning Committee, in addition to serving as Chair of the Board of Directors of Associates for Human Services in Taunton, MA.

Moderator:

Carolyn Normand - Chief Credit Officer, South Shore Bank

Carolyn Normand, Chief Credit Officer, South Shore Bank. Carolyn has been in the banking industry for 20 years and is currently responsible for overseeing credit risk and administration for the Bank. She is Chair of the Bank’s Commercial Loan Approval Committee, Chair of Asset Quality Committee, a member of the Bank’s Audit Committee, and the Compliance Committee. Prior to joining South Shore Bank, she was a Senior Credit Officer for People’s United Bank. She also previously worked at Rockland Trust as the Credit Manager and has held other various credit and underwriting positions at Santander and Wells Fargo. She currently serves as Vice President of the RMA New England Chapter, is Co-Chair of the RMA Women’s Affinity Group, and a member of the RMA Programming Committee. Additionally, Carolyn is a guest speaker with finance and credit analysis students at Northeastern University, and participates as a panelist and moderator for various events related to Commercial Credit, Real Estate Lending, Construction Lending, Women’s Leadership, and Career Progression.  Carolyn serves on the Board, is Assistant Clerk, and Finance Committee member for Family and Community Resources in Brockton, MA.  She is an active volunteer with many organizations on the South Shore including the Weymouth Food Bank, Cardinal Cushing Center, and Father Bills, among others.
